visiting teachers bring their expertise to Silver Music January 14-16
We are thrilled to be hosting master teachers, Christie Felsing (violin), and Nancy Hair (cello) at Silver Music this January. Both teachers will be traveling from Hartford, CT during MLK weekend for a series of events outlined below. Also joining us as part of our workshopwill be parent educator, Shelly Mcdonald, who regularly teaches parenting classes at our 72nd St location.

SATURDAY
Parent Workshop:
12:00-1:30pm: Parenting Workshop with Shelly Macdonald. Shelly is a New York City based Parent Educator and Coach who runs acclaimed workshops based on the parenting texts How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk and Siblings Without Rivalry. Shelly will lead a discussion on how to communicate effectively and lovingly with your kids as you navigate the treacherous territory of practice.
Child care will be provided during this hour.
Cello Masterclasses and Group Class: 2:00-3 pm: Cello Masterclass with Nancy. 3:15-4:15 pm: Cello Masterclass with Nancy. 4:30-5:30 Cello Group Class A with Nancy.

Violin Masterclasses: 12:00-1:00pm: Violin Masterclass with Christie. 3:00-4:00: Violin Masterclass with Christie.

A ticket to the WinterWorkshop Weekend includes:
Parent Talk for 1 adult
Masterclass participation for 1 student and 2 adult audience members.
Cello Group/Violin Play-in participation for 1 student and 1 adult audience member
Faculty Recital tickets for 1 student and 1 adult
Register before December 9th and receive the Early Bird Discount of $125. Registration received after December 9th cost $160. Sibling discounts of 20% are available. Additional tickets for the Faculty Recital will be available: $15/$20 in advance/at the door. Additional tickets for the Parent talk are available for $25 and advanced registration is required.

Teacher Biographies
Christie Felsing received her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying violin with Vartan Manoogian and pedagogy with Marvin Rabin. After a year of graduate studies at Boston University, including long-term Suzuki teacher training, she pursued a nine-month Suzuki internship with Doris Preucil at the Preucil School of Music. This experience led her to complete a Master of Music degree in Suzuki pedagogy at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with John Kendall. Her service to the Suzuki Association of the Americas has included being a member of its Board of Directors (2004-09),SAA Conference Coordinator (2010), Teacher Development Advisory Committee, and ongoing work for the Parents as Partners Online offering. Christie is a registered SAA Violin Teacher Trainer and was a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas staff from 2014-16. Felsing is pleased to be returning to the Hartt Suzuki Program, where she taught from 1994-96 and has led teacher training courses at the Hartt Suzuki Institute the last six summers.
Nancy Hair is a highly sought-after Suzuki teacher from the Boston area. She has been a teacher-trainer since 1988 and enjoys traveling and teaching at institutes, workshops, conferences, and festivals. Nancy teaches at the Hartt School, New England Conservatory Preparatory, and All Newton Music School. In the summer she is on faculty at numerous Suzuki Institutes including Chicago, Ithaca, and Hartt. Nancy has studied Alexander Technique, has completed graduate studies in pedagogy with Ithaca Talent Education, and has been seen in performances with Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, New Hampshire Symphony, Opera Company of Boston, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic.
Shelly Mcdonald is a Parent Educator and Coach who has worked directly with children and families in various capacities for over 20 years. Shelly currently teaches parenting workshops in NYC and coaches parents all over the world via phone/internet. In addition to facilitating parenting workshops and offering private coaching services, Shelly often speaks to parent groups at NYC’s independent and public schools, corporations and community organizations. Shelly is a mother of 2, former labor doula and childbirth educator.
