With this unusual summer, we’ve put together a unique line-up of offerings that we believe will work well for our community and beyond. All programming will be held through the online platform, Zoom. Join our Ready, Set, Play! teachers for Morning Music Camp! Fun summer songs, rhythmic play, pre-instrument skill-building activities, musical movement, stories and poems, and special visits from guest artists will fuel your child’s interest in and love of music this summer!

Our popular RSP has transitioned online! Practice your Suzuki and instrumental skills in addition to moving/responding to music and learning to read and write notation in small group classes of 4-6 children. These classes help prepare young children to study a string instrument, flute, or piano.

Cello & Flute Duo Class

Like a combined group class for cello and flute, Duo Class is a fun way to learn new music and to “play well with others.” The flutes will learn a cello piece, the cellos will learn a flute piece, and both will learn the harmony parts for each piece. Ideal for siblings or friends who play different instruments, or anyone wanting to hear themselves in a new combination.
Composition I-on-I

Learn and gain more understanding of music fundamentals while flexing your composer muscles! Students will be guided through the process of writing music for one or more instruments using the online software noteflight.com. Ideal for pianists but open to all instrumentalists who are comfortable reading notation in simple meter and beyond. Students should have access to a computer or iPad and will need to register for a free account on noteflight.com
Fiddling

Join Molly for an introduction to fiddling! Level I will introduce a tune a week and on our last day we will present a short performance! Level I is appropriate for violin, viola, and cellists. Level 2 is appropriate for violins in Book 3+. This level will explore fiddling techniques in addition to fiddling repertoire.
Musicianship for Violinists

Join Sage for an introduction to musicianship tailored to violin students! In this class we focus on fingerboard geography, rhythm exercises, intervals, note reading, and scales. Level I is offered for violinists aged 5-8 with a parent. Students should have had an introduction to note reading and be between Long Long Ago and the end of Book 2. Level II is for students only, aged 7-9, between Minuet 1 and the end of Book 3.

Age/level: 8+ (Level I must have some basic level of note-reading)
Students expand their note reading in treble and bass clefs; learn to count, clap and conduct in different meters; practice identifying scales, intervals, and chords, and explore melodic and rhythmic dictation. More advanced classes include identifying inversions, tonic, dominant, and subdominant chords, and cadences.
Music Theory for Young Cellists

In this class for young cellists 5-8, we will introduce the concept of dictation, counting in simple meters, and reinforce note-reading.

Students age 7 – 9 will enjoy exploring yoga poses, stretching, awareness and presence in managing tension while playing, the importance of breath and grounding, and ways to stretch before and after practicing.
Midsummer Minuet Class

Join Silver Music’s flute teacher Zara Lawler and an “orchestra” of selected Silver students for an hour of family fun learning to dance the minuet. It’s easy (mostly walking and bowing!) and will help your music learning for years to come!
Soundscapes I: Weekend Workshops

Age/level: 7-10 years with some music experience (any instrument or voice)
Immerse yourself in a creative weekend workshop exploring both the elements of music and the visual arts in making a music video! Students will create an original score with a visual component and put them together in iMovie with the help of our teachers. Access to basic art supplies and a musical instrument (keyboard, string for wind instrument, voice, percussion) are needed, as well as access to a computer or iPad and a camera or recording device (such as an iPhone). Limited to 6 students with two teachers.
Soundscapes II: 5 week Session

Tuesdays and Thursday + Individually Scheduled Weekly Session
Dates: July 28-Aug 27
Time: Tuesday AND Thursday 1-2pm + 1 hour private session each week, arranged around student availability
