Music and Story (ages 1-2 years and 3 -5 years)
In this creative class, we use familiar books to create music soundscapes with children. Young children (Toddlers and 2s) participate with a caregiver, and children 3 and up may participate on their own or have an adult nearby. Children are helped to identify characters, emotions, actions, and sounds in the story and then improvise and develop instrumental segments to go along with the story. Children are introduced to percussion instruments, string instruments, piano and guitar, as well as sound-making with everyday objects.
Older children also create original stories and music and perform their pieces as a group.
This class engages the imagination, enhances language acquisition and sequencing, and promotes early literacy, while inviting a hands-on approach to music-making and turns with real instruments.
A few of our favorite books and stories are:
Going on A Bear Hunt
Brown Bear, Brown Bear
Jamberry
The Three Billy Goats Gruff
…and many more!
