A fundamental aspect of the Suzuki approach is parental involvement. Unlike other activities your child may be involved in, string instrument lessons are not a drop-off program. Parents are an equal part of the Suzuki Triangle: student, teacher, parent—otherwise known as “home teacher”.
For parents who do not have a background in music, or string instruments in particular, this responsibility can be daunting. By attending your child’s lessons and taking careful notes, a novice parent will become competent as a home teacher. However, your child’s half-hour long lessons are constructed with the young child’s learning style in mind and can often leave you with more questions than it answers. Our parent class is constructed for the adult musical novice to answer these questions and help parents become the most effective home teachers that they can be.
For parents whose children are still too young to start an instrument, taking part in our parent class will introduce you to the skills your child will be acquiring and give you an opportunity to meet with parents who are already involved in our Suzuki program and gain insight in to the Suzuki experience.
