Silver Music offers Small Group music experiences during regular school hours, designed for schools seeking a flexible, targeted approach to music learning.
In this model, a Silver Music teacher works with a small or rotating group of students during times such as work periods, activity blocks, or choice-based learning times.
Visits from a Silver Music teacher may take place once or multiple times per week, or for a defined period of the year as a musical “residency” (for example, a 3 to 4-week series). Programming and scheduling are tailored to what best supports the school community or a particular class.
Educational Approach
Small Group Ready, Set, Play! sessions draw on the same pedagogical foundations as full in-school programs, informed by Suzuki philosophy and Dalcroze Eurhythmics.
In this more intimate setting, children benefit from:
- Close interaction with a teacher
- Opportunities for individual turns with child-sized string instruments
- Opportunities to work closely on rhythm writing and reading
- Targeted development of rhythm, ear-training, small-motor skills, and coordination
- Space to explore instruments in a small-group setting
This model supports children who are especially drawn to music, while remaining accessible and low-pressure. There may be an opportunity for a short activity with a larger group of children before offering Small Group instruction. In some open classrooms, all of the children will be exposed to the music in the shared-space, whether or not they actively choose to participate.
How Classroom Visits & Small Group Music Work
Small Group sessions may take place:
- During work periods or activity centers
- As part of a rotating enrichment model
- With consistent or rotating groups of children
- For a short series or ongoing visits
Children become comfortable and confident working with instruments, setting the foundation for a lifelong relationship with music.
